CAS 103-23-1 · Adipate Ester Plasticizer

Dioctyl Adipate

DOA / DEHA  ·  C₂₂H₄₂O₄  ·  MW 370.57 g/mol

A high-performance adipate ester plasticizer prized for its outstanding low-temperature flexibility, wide liquid range, and FDA-approved food-contact status. DOA is the go-to plasticizer for PVC applications that must remain flexible in cold environments — from automotive wire insulation and refrigerator gaskets to food-wrap films and Arctic-grade cables. CFPT supplies DOA in drums, totes, and bulk.

Industrial Applications

Low-Temperature PVC Plasticization

Primary plasticizer for PVC and vinyl compounds requiring flexibility at sub-zero temperatures. DOA's exceptionally low glass transition contribution makes it the standard choice for automotive wire insulation, refrigerator gaskets, cold-weather hoses, and Arctic-grade cable jacketing.

Synthetic Rubber & Elastomers

Plasticizer and processing aid for nitrile rubber (NBR), neoprene, and chlorinated polyethylene. DOA improves low-temperature flexibility, reduces hardness, and enhances elongation in seals, gaskets, and molded rubber components.

Food-Contact Films & Packaging

Approved plasticizer for food-contact PVC films and wraps (FDA 21 CFR 181.27). DOA's low volatility and migration resistance make it suitable for stretch wrap, meat packaging, and produce films where direct food contact is required.

Coatings & Lacquers

Secondary plasticizer and coalescent in nitrocellulose lacquers, acrylic coatings, and specialty varnishes. Improves film flexibility, cold-crack resistance, and adhesion to flexible substrates including leather, fabric, and foil.

Adhesives & Sealants

Plasticizing component in solvent-based and hot-melt adhesives for flexible packaging, bookbinding, and automotive interior assembly. DOA improves peel strength, tack retention at low temperatures, and long-term flexibility of bonded assemblies.

Lubricants & Functional Fluids

Base fluid and additive in synthetic lubricants, hydraulic fluids, and dielectric oils. DOA's wide liquid range (−68 °C to >200 °C), low pour point, and good oxidative stability make it suitable for aerospace, military, and industrial fluid applications.
